Top 10 nail art products for beginners (you can buy all these from 1 shop!)

Hello there! It’s Friday, woo hoo! Hope you’re well! It’s actually snowing in the UK. I’m unusually happy about it, it looks so pretty 😂

WARNING: This could be a lengthy post 🙂

Today, I would like to share my top 10 Born Pretty nail art items. This post is totally inspired by the idea Stashy has given me (thank you Stashy)! A lot of people are probably finding the Born Pretty site overwhelming with the endless amount of products on offer. Well, I did when I first started looking at the site. Born Pretty store (BPS) sells so much and nail art is only a category! There are probably tens of thousands of options on the site. So I hope this post might be helpful to you if you’re new to the site and/or nail art.

Obviously, I won’t be including items that you can probably get cheaper elsewhere. Such as makeup sponges for gradient nails, cheap and cheerful polishes, cotton balls and acetone. Those things are just not feasible to buy from overseas.

This post is written totally base on my own experience with store, this is where I shop most when I first started with nail art.

What’s Born Pretty?
BPS is an online store; the department I often visit is the Nail Art section. BPS offers a huge selection of nail art items at a very attractive price point. It is great for regular and nail art beginners, who want to build up their collection of tools! Or even, just to try out a nail art trend but doesn’t want to invest too much (that’s me, I only just obtained the mermaid powder!). To be honest, I have not had any issue until recently, where BPS had a huge anniversary event and that delayed all my orders by 6 weeks! Normally, my orders take 10 to 15 days to reach me in the UK.

OK, on to the interesting bit! My top 10! (If you are not interested in nail stamping then proceed to item number 6!) Stamping is fun! 😉

Number 1. Short Red clear XL stamper

XL red short stamper (BP haul July 2016) @iamcherrylemon

XL red short stamper (BP haul July 2016) @iamcherrylemon

This is my favourite and best find from BPS to date, and I have been using the site for few years! There are many “identical looking” stampers on the market, some costing few times more but obviously they are readily available without the extensive shipping time. You can also purchase this stamper from Aliexpress at an even cheaper price. I prefer to buy mine from BPS because it is like a one-stop shop for me.

This stamper head measures 3.5cm in diameter; it is large enough for most nail lengths. I love the fact that the barrel is short, easy to handle, and really to see through at stamped image! A clear stamper is essential for accurate placement of the stamped image when alignment is required, or when you are doing layered stamping too. It makes the job a lot easier.
As with other clear stampers, the red clear stamper mighty not be completely beginner friendly. It might take a few practice runs with the image pick-up. Just remember to use a light rolling action when you are picking images. Never prime a clear stamper with acetone too.

Check my existing post for a more detailed review. I love it, and I don’t think you can go wrong with this great little stamper at this price! Currently at $3.99

Number 2. Christmas Nail Art Stamper Starry Sky Silicone Head  (new purchase!)

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items - Christmas Nail Art Starry Sky Stamper @iamcherrylemon

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items – Christmas Nail Art Starry Sky Stamper @iamcherrylemon

For this starry sky stamper, not only does it look cute but it picks up images really easily too. It has a soft and sticky stamper head. I use this when I do not need to line my stamped images. This stamper has a short-ish metal barrel, with snowman printed all over it!
For me, a good stamper is one that you can use with multiple stamping plates and various stamping polishes. This galaxy stamper certainly fits this criteria. $3.59 each now

Continuing with the nail stamping mind-set..

Number 3. Stamping polishes

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items - Stamping polishes @iamcherrylemon

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items – Stamping polishes @iamcherrylemon

I have purchased the black, grey, light green and the gold stamping polish from this range. I can say, hands on heart that these stamping polishes really impressed me! They actually have a permanent spot on my nail art work station!

This black stamping polish is super pigmented and works with all the plates I’ve tried in my collection. It works every time for me, the images are crisp sharp without patchiness. This gold polish stamps very well, but it is a very warm yellow shade.
They outperform many other brands, and work just as well as some of the more well-known stamping polishes. Look out for this 15ml bottle for stamping polishes, in my experience, these perform better than the other lines I’ve tried.  $3.99 a bottle

It is important to choose the right scrapers to use as well. I will not be including scrapers in my top 10!! as I believe an old credit card, store card would do. You can purchase scrapers from Born Pretty, but most of their stampers come with 2 scrapers. I received 2 small clear flexible scrapers with my galaxy stamper and 2 small firm plastic scrapers with the Short red clear XL stamper.

Number 4. Stamping plates

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items – New purchases @iamcherrylemon

I have more than 30 BPS stamping plates in my collection, mostly the rectangular ones, as for some reason I am not too keen on using round plates due to my nail lengths. I am almost guaranteed that the images from these rectangular plates will fit my slightly longer nails. Some of the images on round plates are catered for shorter nails only. Born Pretty Stamping Plates from $1.99

I won’t be able to pick one favourite plate, but here are the ones that I use most often and are my favourites.

Flower Vine Nail Art Stamp Template Leaves Image Plate BORN PRETTY BP-L026 12.5 x 6.5cm

BPS launches new stamping plate pretty often, they are normally priced (discounted) at $1.99 to $2.99 for the rectangular plates. Again, I have never had any issue with images not picking up. The designs are nice and plate are good quality, etched very well for perfect transfers.

Number 5. Cotton claw

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items - Cotton Claw @iamcherrylemon

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items – Cotton Claw @iamcherrylemon

If you ever use acetone to clean stamping plates, it is best to get a cotton claw. This is one of those things you never thought you will need! But once you have used one, you will wonder why you lived without one for so long! During my early days of stamping nails, I was using a clothes peg to hold my acetone-saturated cotton balls to clean my stamping plates. Needless to say, it doesn’t really work every single time! This cotton claw is extremely convenient, use this instead of your newly polished fingers to touch cotton balls! No more accidentally ruined nails! Use a cotton ball not cotton pad, as those might be too thin and you run the risk of scratching your precious stamping plates!

AH HA, if you are not interested in nail stamping.. here are some items that might interest you too.
Number 6. Dotting tool

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items - Dotting tool @iamcherrylemon

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items – Dotting tool @iamcherrylemon

One of my very first nail art tools ever, it happens to have been bought from BPS. These dotting tools are very versatile, you can creating dotticure, use it to draw and paint nail art. I have been using mine for years and they still look brand new! This is a wonderful addition to any starting nail art lover! Highly recommend these if you are a beginner, as dotticure is one of the easiest nail art to accomplish. 5x 2way DOTTING Pen Marbleizing Tool Nail Art Dot Paint at $2.99

Number 7. Set of 3 nail art brushes

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items – Set of nail art brushes @iamcherrylemon

I got this set of brushes at the same time of when I’ve bought my dotting tools. I’ve used these to death (check out the bandages on them!), but they are still working but might have seen better days! These brushes are so cheap, but they can take alot of abuse! Yes… I’ve left polishes on these overnight. The brush sizes are perfect but still great for detailing work. You don’t have to be a wonderful artist to do any nail art at all. To begin with, I have tried waterfall manicure and I’ve used these brushes for that (see below for my waterfall mani). BPS does not sell my set anymore, but here’s the closest set I can find.

Number 8. Stamping nail art mat

Born Pretty Stamping Nail Art Mat - product review @iamcherrylemon

Born Pretty Stamping Nail Art Mat – product review @iamcherrylemon

You do not need to do stamping to use this mat, as it serves as desk protection. You will understand if you have ever spilled a bottle of nail polish.

Recently reviewed on my blog! I do like a good mat, this one is cheap and cheerful, it does what a stamping mat should do!

Number 9. Nail art decorations

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items - nail decorations @iamcherylemon

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items – nail decorations @iamcherylemon

This is not one item but one category, I cannot recommend just 1 roll of striping tapes right? I just want to show you what type of decorations are available (then I realised I forgot to include nail striping tapes in the photo!).
BPS sells lots of different decorations, I will recommend to get some striping tapes, some nail rhinestones or studs, some water decals for those lazy nail art days. Nail foils are great and easy to apply. You will need foil glue, BPS sells some generic foil glue that works well. I have tried many topcoat on foils but only Picture Polish “Revolution” works well and not destroy the foil nail art.
Here are some of the manis I have done using water decals, tapes and rhinestones.

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items – Nail protection stickers @iamcherrylemon

OK who enjoys cleaning up after nail art? I don’t, I hate it.. this is where this item comes in handy!! You basically use these to protect your cuticles, no more using cleaning up brush dipped in acetone. NO more mess after watermarbling or gradient! 10pcs/Sheet Latex-Free Cuticle Protecting Adhesive U-Shape Nail Tapes $1.99 for a pack of 10

WOW, what a long post.. if you last until this bit.. well done you!!! I hope this post has helped you a little in deciding on what items to get for your nail art adventure. But again, bear in mind that shipping can take a long time!! I normally place an order and forgotten about it until it arrives on my door steps 😛 I enjoy shopping there and I will continue to stalk their stamping plate page for new products! hehehe

All items purchased by me using my own money, apart from the Stamping nail art mat which was sent to me for honest review.

Should you have any question regarding this post or how to use these products, leave me a comment and I will get back to you. Ah don’t forget to use the code FTL91, BPS will sponsor a giveaway once we get enough clicks and use!

Thank you so much for reading! Have an awesome day 😀

Product Review: L’Occitane Lavender Hand Cream

L'Occitane Lavender Hand Cream @iamcherrylemon

L’Occitane Lavender Hand Cream @iamcherrylemon

Today, I am sharing my thoughts on L’Occitane’s alternative bestselling hand cream. I have always been a fan of their original Shea Butter hand cream, and also tried other variations in the handy handbag size too.
After a year of not using hand creams, I am welcoming these lovely nourishing creams with open palms! I have only recently fell back in love with the lavender scent, and I am slowly infusing my house with it! The scent has known to have calming and relaxing influences for some people. It is commonly used as a sleeping aid for children and adults.
There are alot of companies who sells lavender hand creams or hand creams infused with lavender scent etc. Some are pretty good, and some do smell rather artificial! I do like this one by L’Occitane.
The product: This hand cream is infused with shea butter and lavender essential oils. It comes in 3 sizes, 15ml (promotional packs), 30ml and 75ml. This 75ml bigger version is perfect to keep in office or by the bedside table.
The texture is light and gel-like cream, it gets absorbed easily so that’s a huge bonus! Who has time to sit around rubbing hand cream in? (I used to!)
The basic ingredients are water, glycerine, shea butter, lavender, grape seed and coconut oils and fragrance. It does contain allergens such as alcohol and stabilising agents i.e. xanthan gum.
Effectiveness: This hand cream is great for mildly dry hands and normal skin. It gives enough moisturising properties and nourishes the dry and rough skin on the hand.
Pros:
  • Good moisturising properties and nourishing to cuticles
  • Temporarily smooths out chapped skin
  • Scented
  • Non greasy
  • Easily asorbed
  • Attractive packaging
Cons:
  • Heavily scented (My colleague asked me why I smell of shoe polish, I am not sure how lavender smells to him….)
  • Pricy (splurge! but a good treat!)
Price: £14 for 75ml, L’Occitane online store
Summary: 3.5/5
Light texture cream that can be easily absorbed, targets dry chapped areas on hands. A good all rounder hand cream, I would recommend this to those who appreciates its heavy scent. You are better off choosing the original shea butter hand cream if you are after a heavier duty cream! or your hands need more nourishment and pampering.
L’Occitane often hosts special sales, free gifts with purchase and discounting items online for flash sales. Make sure you sign up if you are interested in L’Occitane products, although bestsellers are not discounted in most cases!

September favourites 2015 (Makeup, skincare and misc)

September favourites 2015 @iamcherrylemon

September favourites 2015 @iamcherrylemon

Hi there! I believe this is my first ever monthly favourite blog post! I don’t normally switch around too much with my products, but with so many bits and bobs sitting on my vanity I feel like I must make an effort!
These are the most used products in the month of September for me 🙂

Etude House Drawing Eye Brow definer
I’ve reviewed this brow definer before, but I recently found it again behind my chest of drawer! So it is back in my life with a bang, I’ve been using this throughout the whole month of September. Previous review post here.
Under $6 from Amazon

Urban Decay Revolution lipstick in Catfight
Cat fight is a pink fuchsia with red tone, it is a cream sheen finish. Not the usual colour I normally go for but it somehow attracts alot of compliments 😉
It’s bright and is eye catching! I feel great whenever I’m wearing it. It could be my new “Red” during this summer turn Autumn season!
£15.50 from Urban Decay (and any major department store)

September favourites 2015 (swatches) L to R: Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick, Bourjois Pinceau Eyeliner and Etude House Drawing brow definer @iamcherrylemon

September favourites 2015 (swatches) L to R: Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick, Bourjois Pinceau Eyeliner and Etude House Drawing brow definer @iamcherrylemon

Bourjois Liner Pinceau Eyeliner
This is one of my favourite liquid eyeliner ever! I shall write up a more in depth review on this.
This liner is a super fine brush which gives so much control. You can create a superfine cat liner or a 70s retro wing liner with ease.
Under £7 from Amazon (any major drugstore that stocks Bourjois! I.e. Boots)

CND Solar Oil nail & cuticle conditioner
My nails are going through a fragile state at the moment. Hence the lack of NOTD posts for a month! I’m currently nursing them back to normal health using this Solar Oil conditioner. It smells sweetly of almonds!
So far it is working well, the cuticles are looking better. This is not a nail growth promoter, so my nails are taking their time to grow! Fingers crossed, I’ll be back with better looking nails for future manicure posts.
£6.95 from Amazon UK

Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover For Lids, Lashes & Lips
I received the deluxe sample of this from British Beauty Blogger collaboration box with Clinque. See review of this product here.
I’ve been using this non-stop this month and had to stop to save enough for my review post! It does the job and it does it well! Big thumbs up!

£17 for 125ml from Clinque or any major department store

Funny one this is! I don’t have dandruff but my scalp does get sensitive to certain shampoo, this means I will see dandruff looking bits once in a blue moon.
Body Shop Ginger Shampoo smells like ginger, yes it does. I definitely not seen any unattractive flakes since I’ve started using it 3 or 4 months ago. It is also gentle enough not to irritate my scalp. So I’m going to stick with this one for awhile!

£4.50 for 200ml from the Body Shop

Music/Singles: Katie Melua – Wonderful Life
I liked listening to calming music, and Melua is certainly one of the artists that I keep going back to 🙂
Katie Melua’s re-recording of Wonderful Life is currently available for download and on sale, with profit going to children’s charities. What a thoughtful and great way to raise awareness to these children’s charities. MTV on YouTube

My Skincare Empties – August 2015

2015 August Empties from Cherry Lemon Beauty Blog @iamcherrylemon

2015 August Empties from Cherry Lemon Beauty Blog @iamcherrylemon

Hello! It took me forever to collect enough used up products to compile an empties blog post! Gosh, the effort!  😛
This is because the products I don’t like or not enjoy using will remain half used… very wasteful I know 😦
And I open another bottle before I know it! Anyhow,  let’s begin!

For Hands & Body!

2015 August Empties (CO Bigelow Lemon Handcream, Liz Earle Orange Flower Botanical Bath Wash and Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion) from @iamcherrylemon

2015 August Empties (CO Bigelow Lemon Handcream, Liz Earle Orange Flower Botanical Bath Wash and Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion) from @iamcherrylemon

C.O. Bigelow Lemon Hand Treatment

Ultra Moisturising and Skin-Brightening Formula (Bath & Body Works 85g) $16
This is my staple hand cream for many years, I love this stuff. It contains lemon oil, lemon extracts, grape seed oil and licorice extract. This hand cream smells deliciously like lemons. It’s sweet and refreshing at the same time.
The hand cream doesn’t take long to be absorbed into the skin. It leaves my hands moisturised and nourished.
I would definitely repurchase if I get to visit US again 🙂
Score: 3 out of 5

Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion, 200ml
This is my holy grail body lotion, I’ve an in-depth review post here.
Absolutely love this stuff, I’ve two extra backups of this lotion!
This is widely available in chemists and drugstores. I buy mine from Costco! 😛
Score: 5 out of 5!

Liz Earle Orange Flower Botanical Body Wash, 200ml
This is truly a heavenly body wash! It smells amazing, very natural and relaxing.
This body wash contains naturally active ingredients and pure essential oils to lift the spirits and scent the skin. It cleans well, I better mention this before I forget! It does leave the skin soft and smooth, even Mr Lemon loves using this body wash.
Big thumbs up!
Score: 4 out of 5

£13 for 200ml from Boots.com

For Cleansing!

2015 August Empties (Banila Co Clean it Zero Cleansing Balm Classic and Clarins Toning Lotion) from @iamcherrylemon

2015 August Empties (Banila Co Clean it Zero Cleansing Balm Classic and Clarins Toning Lotion) from @iamcherrylemon

Banila Co Clean it Zero (Classic Sherbet Cleanser)
A k-beauty product I got from my old Memebox days. This is probably one of my favourites. I have fallen in love with cleansing balm for makeup removal. This cleansing balm is affordable, smells like sorbet and it cleans amazingly well. I can’t fault it, hence I’ll retire my Emma Hardie cleansing balm and start using my backup purchase of this Clean it Zero!
Score: 4.5 out of 5

Clarins Toning Lotion with Iris (alcohol free) 400ml @ £24.50
To me, the job of a toner is to remove all the last traces of makeup and cleanser residue. Hence this forms the last step of my cleansing routine day and night.
The toner liquid is soft green, and has a faint fragrance to it. It might irritates the sensitive skin but it seems fine on mine.
A toner for removing leftovers from facial cleansing and preparing your skin for moisturiser/serum. It contains purifying plant extracts which helps to tighten pores and refreshes the skin.
The skin feels soft after application for me, but not sure about pores being tightened. I would recommend this for oily gals out there without sensitive skin. The alcohol free formula ensures your skin is not left dry, tight and stripped of natural oils.
I enjoyed using this but I won’t be repurchasing this. I love my Elemis toner too much that I have to go back to it now 😉
Score: 3 out of 5

For Facial Skincare!

2015 August Empties (Sarah Chapman Skinesis Intense Hydrating Booster and Vicioni Super Aquq Soothing Serum) from @iamcherrylemon

2015 August Empties (Sarah Chapman Skinesis Intense Hydrating Booster and Vicioni Super Aquq Soothing Serum) from @iamcherrylemon

Sarah Chapman Skinesis Intense Hydrating Booster
This is a lovely serum for dehydrated skin. It doesn’t feel heavy for oily skin,  it re-hydrates my skin enough for the next morning to look like I’ve had a facial! My full review of the product is here.

Score: 4 out of 5

Vicioni Super Aqua Soothing Serum 30ml, RRP $29

I’ve received this from one of my favourite Memebox collabration box with Soothing Sister (Stephanie Villa). This serum contains 100% natural ingredients and packed with vitamins and seas minerals. This serum works very well for me, with nightly use, my skin feels hydrated and very cooling. I like this serum so much that I have bought two more backups! I am not sure what I will do when I run out of it! As I currently cannot find an online K-Beauty retailer that sells it!

Score: 4.5 out of 5

Yes… for me to use up the whole bottle/tubes of product, I really have to like it enough 😉
Thank you for reading and have a great weekend ahead.

This is a well curated bag, all the products look and smell wonderful. This is very well fitted to the theme of the bag “Breakfast”. I love this bag, it contains “Cherry” and “Lemon” 😉

Sasatinnie is a brand that you can find in Sasa, it is a widely known Asian beauty chain within the Asia. They have an online store that sells a vast range of Asian and Western beauty brands, they also ships internationally. Their own line of Sasatinnie products are mostly made in Korea. Price range is very competitive to other brands.

The hand mask is a pair of white plastic gloves lined with a line cotton mesh; the gloves are lightly filled with hand care lotion. The first thing I’ve noticed is the delicious peach scent. It doesn’t smell of sweet fake peaches, it really does smell like peaches! I might pick up the hand lotion just for the scent!

Gingko extract – for improving circulation
Peach extract – contains hydrating properties
Rose extract – contains hydrating and soothing properties to help with deeply moisturising the hands

Instruction is very easy to follow:
1. Clean hands and pat dry
2. Wear these gloves for 15 to 20 mins
3. Remove gloves and massage the leftover essence into the hands

To use, I only have to wear these gloves for 15 to 20 minutes. After that, I massaged the excess lotion into the hands as instructed. The skin does feel hydrated and I’ve lost the tight “dry skin” feel. Please see summary for my overall verdict!

Price: $3.99 USD, the sasatinnie hand gloves were on offer for $1.99 when I purchased them.

Product Summary:
I would recommend to use a hand mask for twice to three times a week to keep them in tip top conditions!
For me, I am unlikely to repurchase this. The essence left on the hands after the treatment could feel a little bit waxy (it won’t get absorbed into the skin), and it only felt a little bit nicer after a hand wash. The moisturising effects on the hands lasted about half a day if I do not continue the care with hand lotions. I much prefer the “Soap & Glory Hand Glove” as overnight treatment with a pair of cotton gloves. The result was dramatic and more long-lasting.

Hand masks are still new to me, I probably do 50 face masks before I remember to use one hand mask.
Do you use hand masks? How do you look after your hands?

Thank you for reading and have a great start to your week!

Sally Hansen Nail Growth Miracle Serum and Complete Care Nail Treatment 4 in 1 – Product Review, plus tips on preventing nail breaks!

Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle Serum - Product Review @iamcherrylemon

Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle Serum – Product Review @iamcherrylemon

Hello, do you have issue growing your nails? I don’t but they do take a bit of time! I broke 4 nails just before Christmas and this is kinda like how I felt (see picture!).

Broken a Nail
I’ve been repairing them using the tea bag nail repair method for at least two weeks. I continued to complete my NOTD posts but it was getting ridiculous as I was using superglue on my nails. Christmas came and I cut all my other ones to the same lengths, as I never thought of getting nail extension or hard gel nails to make them look equal. As a ex-nail biter, I miss all the lengths I had, breaking nails is one of those moments that make me sad!

Sally Hansen Nail Growth Miracle Serum

Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle Serum @iamcherrylemon

Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle Serum (dropper) @iamcherrylemon

Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle Serum (dropper) @iamcherrylemon

Once nails get to a certain length, they get weak, dry and brittle for me. They start to chip and crack left, right and center. So I have started to seek help. I know I needed to nourish it more and give it more moisture. But moisture doesn’t mean water!

It became my mission to find something to help them grow stronger. Then I came across this Sally Hansen growth miracle serum in Superdrug. It was kind of pricey at £9.95. But it promises 59% longer, stronger nails with better cuticles. I followed the application instruction religiously for seven days and I could see the obvious difference. I was falling for this serum.
It is a thick gel like serum with a droplet dispenser. It wasn’t easy to get one drop of serum because the dropper doesn’t pick up the product well. I scooped and massaged a tiny drop onto the nail and cuticles. It does take a little massage before the serum gets absorbed.

Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle Serum - Results @iamcherrylemon

Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle Serum – Results @iamcherrylemon

Pros:

  • Nails are stronger and not brittle
  • Instantly moisturise cuticles
  • Helps to grow lengths faster

Cons:

  • Just a little bit pricey but the result can justify the price tag (?)
  • Dropper doesn’t pick up product

My take on the product:
The packaging is a nice shiny gold bottle, eye catching and this reminds me to use it before bedtime. This product did work for me. My long (and possibly too long) nails are strong but not brittle. I will certainly  repurchase when I finish this bottle. I use this before taking pictures for my manicure so my cuticles will look softer and more moisturised.

This was the normal length for me, picture taken over a year ago.

Complete Care 4 in 1 Nail Treatment

Sally Hansen Complete Care Extra Moisturising 4 in 1 Nail Treatment @iamcherrylemon

Sally Hansen Complete Care Extra Moisturising 4 in 1 Nail Treatment @iamcherrylemon

This product is being marketed as a multifunctional nail treatment. It is a base coat, strengthener,  grow treatment and top coat.
It helps with:
Nail growth with smoother surface and less ridges.
It contains micro-mineral and bio-vitamins to help strengthen the nail that resist breaks and cracks.
Triple protein complex to help nails grow longer and stronger.
Durable scratch resistant protection for chip proof protection.

Pros:

  • Not goopy and easy to use
  • Strengthens nails
  • Moisturising nails to prevent nails becoming dry and brittle

Cons:

  • Doesn’t protect nails from polish staining
  • Doesn’t last long on its own (flakes off after two days if worn alone)

My take on the product:
This is a good product as nail strengthener and nail treatment for moisturising nails. But I find it pretty poor performing as a base coat. Because it did not protect my nails from nail polish staining. I was wearing Illamasqua nail varnish in Ruthless. It left a yellow tint to my nails! I wish this performs as good as my Essie “Nourish Me” base coat. The search is back on for a moisturising base coat.
I’ve had it with OPI Nail envy, my nails touch the stuff and it will breaks. It used to be my hero product!

Price: £10.95 for 13.3ml from Superdrug, and all other major chemists/drugstores
Product score: 2 out of 5

Do you have a moisturising nail base coat that you would recommend? If so, please leave a comment below! I would like to try some other ones.

Things I’ve learned from this:

  • Take care of the nails and be mindful of what you’re doing with your hands. Take it slowly! (no more jamming your nails in the microwave!)
  • Don’t let your nails come in contact with water for too long. This would cause nail splits! Gloves on whenever you might be washing dishes/or your car.
  • Seal your nail edges whenever you’re completing a manicure. Just run base/top coat along the free edges. Repeat when necessary.
  • Nourish your nails by using cuticle oils whenever possible. (I need to get better at this!)
  • Obvious but do not use your nails as a tool. I.e. they are not a can-ring puller. I’ve stopped opening cans :p
  • Don’t file them too thinly trying to remove ridges (there are few causes for nail ridges, check them first. Failing that, use a ridge filler before nail polish)
  • File your nails properly, use something with finer grits such as a glass nail filer. Try not to use the see-saw action. It weakens your nails.

Thank you for reading and have a wonderful Monday!

Unboxing of Special #37 Wake up Makeup, #46 From Jeju an Superbox #53 My Honey Box (Restock Boxes Edition of Unboxing Party)

Hello and welcome to my “unboxing party”, I am unboxing and will be giving first impression on the various products contained within these lovely boxes! These are from Memebox restocking events. Yes, where only the fastest fingers win!

Memebox Special #46 From Jeju

Memebox Special #46 From Jeju

It is fate! When this box first came out I did not purchase it, as I had no idea what Jeju was.. looking at the box cover, it looked like boulders to me! Little did I know, Jeju is a paradise “hawaii-sque” island of Korea. It is famous for producing the best natural organic produce and skincare ingredients. I missed this box couple of times before finally laying my hands on it! Muwahaha!

Here is a lovely picture of the Jeju Island!

and this is where Jeju island is in relation to Korea.

And this is my “FROM JEJU” box, in its full glory! Hehe

  1. Skindeco Volcanic Pore Clay Sparkling Heating Mask 100ml, RRP $33

This mask contains volcanic clay, sparkling mineral water and plankton (Plankton are microscopic organisms that float freely with oceanic currents, DO NOT GOOGLE it if you do not like creepy crawlies!) from Jeju island. I have not tried this clay yet  :o(

  1. The Yeon Jeju Hallabong Ade Energy Peeling Toner 200ml, RRP $19

I have the Jeju Hallabong all in one serum from various boxes, and this is the first Hallabong toner for me! This toner gently exfoliates the skin when used after cleansing. It contains a blend of organic Hallabong, kiwi and broccoli (pretty much the same ingredients as the serum!). The toner is enriched with papaya extracts and black willow extracts to remove excess dead skin cells.

  1. Skincure SanDaWha Natural Mild Cleansing Oil 30ml, RRP $10

This lovely cleansing oil is one of the gentlest one I have come across. It is made with 100% Jeju camellia oil, the only regret is…. It’s tiny at 30ml!!

  1. Secret Nature From Jeju Serum 50ml, RRP $33

This serum contains organic extracts of broccoli, carrot and asparagus. It promises to deliver moisture in abundance! I do agree how moisturising this feels on the skin, it is great for the colder months. This serum is very gentle on the skin, it does not contain parabens, artificial colouring, talc, TEA or fragrance.

  1. Etude House Green Tea Blending Sleeping Cream Spoon 6g, RRP $2

This is my first sleeping cream spoon! To use, you open the pack and mix the cream well before applying onto the skin. AS this is a sleeping mask, you do not need to rinse this off before sleep. To me, I think there’s too much product for one use but it is impossible to keep it fresh! I like how it leaves my skin super nourished in the morning, so I have ordered the full set from eBay for around £10 including shipping.

Etude-House-Moonlight-Spoon-Blending-Sleeping-Cream-Set

  1. Etude House Soothing & Clean Green Tea Sheet Mask Pack 20ml, RRP $1

Etude House masks are good, hydrating and skin brightening. I have only used the lemon version before this green tea one. I can say that they are both good, the lemon version is for skin brightening and this green tea version makes the skin feel moisturised and soothes minor skin irritations. To use, you put this mask on after cleansing the face. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes before removing. Pat gently for any extra essence to be absorbed into the skin.

  1. The Yeon Jeju Canola Honey Silky Hand Cream 50ml, RRP $5

This is by far my favourite hand cream from Memebox, and possibly my favourite hand cream ever! No joke, this cream is so good I gave my first tube to my mum!

The scent of this is not strong, very similar to fresh blossoms with honey. This hand cream contains canola flower honey, surprise surprise! It is not greasy and gets absorbed really well into the hands. Okie, I liked it so much I’ve put it a request at Testerkorea. They are now selling this for 6400 Korean won (about $5.80 USD) on the site, and I’ve bought six, yes SIX backups from them!

The total retail value of this box is $103, the cost of the box is $23 plus shipping. I LOVE this box. Thank you Meme, thank you Jeju!

This is second edition of the Memebox Honey box, I was not around when the first edition was launched. So I am guessing honey is a popular ingredient and favourite of most meme-buyers!

I can’t believe how good this box is!

Box contents:

  1. Migabee Antipollution RE-Peeling 100ml, RRP $37

I love using peeling gels, I am not a fan of scrubs with granules and I rely heavily on peeling gels to remove dead skin cells and help my skin regenerate. This peeling gel contains honey, bee venom, propolis and royal jelly. FYI, my favourite peeling gel is Ginvera Marvel Gel.
Updated: 12th Feb 2015. This is not a peeling gel but a peeling mask! Thanks to lovely lady on fb for informing me! I shall put it in the mask queue instead of the exfoilant queue (I have products queuing up in order for test outs!).

We are all familiar with Enesti and their lovely hand creams? I received my first one from a lovely lady on FB, then my second and third arrived in later and more recent boxes (Apple Mojito and Pumpkin Pie Cosmetics). This honey and apple edition smells sweet and fresh, it is a very good hand cream. I am starting to sound like a hand cream hoarder now. I am.

  1. From Nature Multi Effect Collagen Honey Mask, RRP $1

This mask contains high concentration of natural honey and collagen extracts. It nourishes without feeling heavy on the skin. I wished I have a second one or many backups :o(

Unboxing of Memebox Special #37 Wake up Makeup

 Official Box Description:

If mornings are not your best friends, and spending hours in front of the mirror is not an option, we’ve got ways to streamline your morning beauty routine so that you can look good, and feel good, every morning. Here, a simple makeup box with a selection of all products that will put yourself together in a flash, at home, or on the go. Because no matter how you feel, Meme-fans always get up, make up, show up, and never give up!

Memebox #37 Wake Up Makeup Box

Morning is my best friend, considering I wake up before 5am every morning for my work! This does not imply that I have lots of time to put on my “work” makeup face. So any shortcuts or tip and tricks are welcome.

Box Contents:

  1. Bbia Downy Cheek 3.5g, RRP $12

There are two options for this blush, and I am happy to receive Downy Peach instead of Downy Pink. As I love cream blushes, I find them ultra blend-able and look really natural on the face.

What do I do!? Two fingers dabbed into the blush and onto my cheeks before blending lightly. This is a lovely item to receive from a makeup beauty box!

  1. It’s Skin Babyface Young Girl Gel Eye Liner (Purple Black) 2 * 5.5g, RRP $13

Purple and black are super wearable, I remember I had a New CID liner trio in jewel colours. That was my favourite thing ever until I migrated onto liquid liners. I still enjoy gel liners on occasion.

This eye liner pot comes with its own line brush too, very handy but I prefer to use a thinner liner brush. Another good product!

  1. Royal Nature The Original Soothing Blemish Balm SPF 30 PA+++ 40ml, RRP $43

This is pretty special. WHY? Not because it contains a blend of skin soothing natural ingredients. Such as calendula extracts, portulaca extracts, chamomile extracts and cypress essential oils. It is because this BB cream contains a special ingredient called “Angel’s Tear” complex. I am guessing it is “Angel Tears” that gives the dewy and glowy look. I had to dial down the dewy-ness by using extra powder on top.

  1. Shara Shara Creamy Dual Auto Eye Stick 1.4g, RRP $9

There are three colour options and we each get one assigned in our boxes. I received the no.2 Holly pink brown. I am guess these are included in this box because the colours here are low maintenance. This means I do not need a crisp and defined line to line my eyes with. Brown liners are good because it looks so natural yet there is enough pigment to define the eyes nicely.

  1. Cheek Room Two Color Lip Gloss 8ml, RRP $12

There are two colour options, I have received the 08 Wine & Nude Peach and cannot be happier as Lavender is definitely not my colour! This lip gloss boosts long lasting formula with high gloss finish.

  1. Shara Shara Glitter Pearl Powder 2.2g, RRP $7

There are three colour options and I received the 01 Pink Romance. It is beautiful colour to use on the eyes, please see swatch! I personally love wearing shimmery colours and this is perfect. So girley! haha

Surprise but not surprised! There is a free gift included in this box.

Cellbydate: The Galacto Zero Essence

Cellbydate The Real Galacto Zero Essence @iamcherrylemon

Cellbydate The Real Galacto Zero Essence @iamcherrylemon

Interesting brand name, isn’t it? Cellbydate or Sell-By-Date?

Anyhow, I am really happy to receive this essence, as it contains ingredients that I know work very well with my skin! This is a soothing, moisturising and skin boosting essence containing galactomyces (fermented fungi family).

The total retail value of this box is $96 plus the essence was retailing around $15, the total cost of the box was $23 plus shipping.

I cannot tell you how much time I have saved on each morning with my makeup routine, but I can say these are very benefiting to my skin! For me, this is a good box and much better than other makeup boxes I have received so far! (See review of Makeup Edition #2 and #3).

Fantastic, I have managed to unboxed three great boxes I bought from the restocks. To be honest, if you do see these boxes restocked on Memebox site. Just grab them, you will not be disappointed. :o)

  1. Enesti Apple & Honey Shea Butter Hand Cream 50g, RRP $5

This is my second or third tubes of Enesti hand creams! I received my first one from a lovely lady from meme FB group. This hand cream is absolutely lovely, it has a sweet scent of apples and honey. Nourishing to the hands and does not leaving a greasy feeling at all. I am a regular hand creams user and I can compare this to my holy grail hand cream from L’Occitane!

I believe the shea butter element of this cream makes it so good! So keep them Enesti hand creams coming Memebox!

Enesti Apple and Honey Shea Butter Hand Cream and AHC Climax Foam Cleanser @iamcherrylemon

  1. AHC Climax Foam Cleanser 180ml, RRP $29

This foam cleanser has been formulated with soda water, glucose and coconut; it is suitable for all skin types. It smells like pretty standard soap cleanser, produces rich and creamy foam and cleans the skin well. But it feels too squeaky clean? I don’t like cleanser that leaves me this feeling, more often than not… it means it is too harsh for me.

  1. Tony Moly Red Apple Tox Honey Cream 80ml, RRP $12
Tony Moly Appletox Honey Cream @iamcherrylemon

Tony Moly Appletox Honey Cream @iamcherrylemon

This is one apple that I was looking forward to receive! This is one of Tony Moly’s famous skincare products. It smells deliciously like red apples (probably better too), the texture is like sticky and stringy honey! It contains natural honey extracts. It aims to enhance skin elasticity and moisture level.

This box (FOR ME) contains more useable items than the other two boxes put together! It has a total meme-retail value of $76 and the cost of the box was $19 plus shipping.

Good box, I will give this box 4 out of 5 (basically 4 items out of 5 are useable :P)

  1. dDung Lovely Girl Mascara 7ml, RRP $24

This mascara has a very short bristle brush, it gives very little volume and does not add much length. So I would suggest you use this on your lower lashes, the shorter bristle will come in handy! I am not mad about this mascara by the way, and certainly will not pay $24 for one!

  1. Shara Shara Feminine Single Blusher RRP $7

I received the pale pink option, this little container house a white fluffy puff for you to apply the blusher with. It does look femine, hence the name I guess!? Again, I am not mad about this item either.

This box is valued at $52 and the total cost of the box was $19 plus shipping.

I will score this box at 0.5 out of 5. Not a box for me unfortunately! The items are petites yes, but not that useful to me.

Memebox Special #67 Blackout!

Memebox Special #67 Blackout!

When I saw the spoiler for this box, I was so disappointed. I didn’t want this box in the first place, I feel stupid having bought it. I did it because a girl on FB group informed me that she made the suggestion on the black box to memebox. She got upset when I said I only wanted Petite Treasures and Apple Mojito boxes. I felt like I shouldn’t even commented what I wanted or not want in public :o( But it is a group forum to for us all to have a good old chinwag over memeboxes! (I am sorry to sound negative here! Ok ranting over)

Anyhow, let’s unbox the unboxables.

Thank you for reading and let’s give feedbacks to memebox, on both good and not-so-good boxes.

Hello there! It is 23rd Dec, are you ready for X’mas? Here’s an unboxing post on the much loved but not hyped up Pumpkin Pie Cosmetics box!

Memebox Superbox #80 Pumpkin Pie Cosmetics

I have ordered the Meme Anniversary box with this Pumpkin pie box in a bundle. Since Memebox has been biggin’ up the Anniversary box so much, for it being the best box ever. I was not too bothered with Pumpkin Pie Box. HOW WRONG CAN I BE? This box contains some pretty impressive lovely items! Read on 😉

Dearberry – Coco’s Secret Recipe Pumpkin 100ml, RRP $16

Dearberry Coco’s Secret Recipe Pumpkin Wash-off Pack @iamcherrylemon

Dearberry Coco’s Secret Recipe Pumpkin Wash-off Pack @iamcherrylemon

AH HA! The only pumpkin related product in the box :p This wash off pack (mask) has the cute packaging and a talc powder scent (is my scent failing me… I was expecting a pumpkin smell.. not that Pumpkins smell of much… )

The texture of this mask is very creamy and smooth, you will only need a thin layer. So this 100ml tub will last quite a while! It helps to clarifies and brightens complexion. I really enjoy using this mask, and I’m interested in checking out other variations from the same range. There are 5 options in total including our Pumpkin, Milk, Yam, Potato and Honey. These are selling for around £19 or $29.99 on eBay, I haven’t found these on TesterKorea, Beauty Net Korea or Korea Depart yet!

Instructions for use: Use 2-3 times a week, apply over clean and dry face avoiding the eyes and mouth area. Leave on for 5-10 minutes and wash it off with warm water.

Insobeau – Multi Complex V-Line Repair Sleeping Mask 80ml, RRP $42

Insobeau Multi Complex V-Line Repir Sleeping Mask @iamcherrylemon

Insobeau Multi Complex V-Line Repir Sleeping Mask @iamcherrylemon

This pretty looking tub contains a sleeping mask that has a rather strong scent. I can’t describe it; it is just a very normal sheet mask smell! The texture of this sleeping mask is like steamed egg/panna cotta? , i.e. very smooth, and light.

This mask contains a blend of adenosine, peptide, argan oil, collagen, albutin, and ceramide. It aims to re-hydrate and brightens the skin.

Unfortunately, this sleeping mask has an expiration date of June 2015, so I have to use this up within 6 months! Mission impossible as I have another 3 on the go right now.

Enesti Shea Butter Hand Cream Lemon & Verbena 50g, RRP $5

Enesti Shea Butter Hand Cream and Enesti Day To Day Rice & Milk Foam Cleanser @iamcherrylemon

Enesti Shea Butter Hand Cream and Enesti Day To Day Rice & Milk Foam Cleanser @iamcherrylemon

Enesti does nice hand creams, and I believe Memebox loves Enesti too. I have got 3 Enesti hand creams already. I love its scents and the formula, it is nourishing without being greasy. The cream sinks into your hands and give you lasting moisture.

This Lemon & Verbena version smells refreshing and lovely to use!

Tonymoly Gold Black Sugar Mask 100ml, RRP $7

Tonymoly Gold Black Sugar Mask @iamcherrylemon

Tonymoly Gold Black Sugar Mask @iamcherrylemon

This is a wash off mask formulated with black sugar, gold (?) and honey extracts. It provides effective facial exfoliation. I have used the Skin Food version and I do find Skin Food’s version is tiny bit too rough on the skin. The sugar particles are on the larger size. I will continue to use this and report back how the two compares.

Enesti Day to Day Rice & Milk Foam Cleansing 160g, RRP $14

I thought I had a repeat when I saw this… the Memebox “Empties” also contain a Rice & Milk Foaming Cleanser by Enesti. You can argue that they are different since the size is different, the packaging is different :p

The total meme-retail value of this box is $84, the cost of the box was $23 plus shipping.

Okie, to me this is a nice box. A heck-load better than the Anniversary box, that teaches me not to have high expectations. No expectations means no disappointment in this case 😛 Every item in this box is useable, just that I have to use the Isobeau sleeping mask a lot more and a lot quicker!

1st Anniversary Box (Memebox is over 1 year old!)

Tosowong Bee AC Control Toner 100ml, RRP $15

Tosowong Bee AC Control Treatment and RiRe Capsule Mask Pack @iamcherrylemon

Tosowong Bee AC Control Treatment and RiRe Capsule Mask Pack @iamcherrylemon

It is randomly selected from lotion or toner mist. I have received the toner mist and couldn’t be more glad! Bee venom creams don’t seem to do much for me, but a toner mist I can make more use of :o)

The toner smells sweet like honey, it feels light and moisturising on the skin. Bee venom is known to be good for acne prone skin, it calms and neutralises.

I was really happy to find such a good quality BB cushion pact in the box, but quickly lost my excitement when I found out we were sent the same shade, same shade for everyone.. I can’t even trade this for a darker shade :o(

CORRECTION: I should not have called this a cushion, as it is a powder pact!! It is weird, as it memorises the indentation that I made with the cotton bud but it did not crumble. INTERESTING! :p

The pact is in shade #21, I have never been able to get away with using shade #21 in any Korean branded cosmetic items.

Anyhow, the pact promises to give great coverage as well as letting your skin breathe. It is formulated with a blend of galactomyces (fungi family), bifida, lactobasillus ferments and Unni Recipe’s special “Silky Balance Network” [whatever that is].

AHC Whitening Cream SPF35 PA++ 30ml, RRP $38

A very light and easily absorbed whitening cream, I do like this cream as it gives the extra SPF under my normal foundation/BB/CC creams! Very handy, and it smells very light and delicate floral. Love it!

RiRe Cool Dr. Scalp 10ml & Hot Speed Manicure 15ml, RRP $11

RiRe Cool Dr. Scalp 10ml & Hot Speed Manicure @iamcherrylemon

RiRe Cool Dr. Scalp 10ml & Hot Speed Manicure @iamcherrylemon

These two products are very interesting. These are for hair and scalp! The Dr. Scalp works to cool down your scalp to prevent hair loss and remove impuritires and dead skin cells, resulting in healthier scalp and hair. The Hot Speed manicure cream works to penetrate deep into hair cuticles, delivers nutrition and help create a stronger protein layer to prevent breakage. I am sceptical on Dr. Scalp treatment. I have had scalp issue after using some well-known brand shampoo and it took me months to get back to normal, flake-free state!

RiRe Capsule Mask Pack (Anti-ageing) 75ml, RRP $22

Randomly selected from 3 options; Moisture, Whitening and Anti-Ageing. I received the anti-ageing pack, I think Memebox is trying to tell me something :p To be honest, I would be happy to receive any of the three. The product smells delicate and soothing.

This is a spray format mask, pretty unusual as all my masks are in tubs, tubes, and never had I receive a spray mask! This capsule spray is not a fine-spray; yes it is more like a squirt! This is to be use under or over makeup, but I am unsure I will be using this over makeup, just in case I have non-waterproof mascara on! HAHAHHAA

The total meme-retail value of this box is $110 and the cost of the box was $23 plus shipping.

I would definitely make use of the AHC Whitening cream, Rire capsule pack and the Tosowoong Bee AC Control Toner.

Thanks for reading this double unboxing post! Have a great day.

These two boxes are currently sold out, but feel free to look out for a restock of these boxes! As I yet to see them being restocked, so there are high chances they will pop up on the Memebox page!
