#26GNAI 26 Great Nail Art Ideas – Going on Holiday

Happy Friday! It is #26GNAI time again! This week’s prompt is “Going on holiday”. Who doesn’t want to be on holiday, especially the weather is nice and sunny, perfect timing 🙂

Here is my “Going on Holiday” nail design! Isn’t it bright and cheerful?

#26GNAI Great nail art ideas -

#26GNAI Great nail art ideas – “Going on holiday” (Born Pretty stamping plates BPL-022 BP-L017) @iamcherrylemon

I layered stamped all the images and made 1 special stamping decal with the sunglasses image. I am actually quite happy with how it turns out, the multicolour stamped planes are so adorable!

Products used:

  • Barry M Gelly nail paint in Guava
  • Painted polish in Midnight mischief, Stamped in Mint, Stamped in Taro, Stamped in Starfruit, Stamped in Guava
  • Colour Alike white stamping polish
  • Born pretty stamping plates BPL-022 and BP-L017

Mini review on the stamping plates

The BPL-022 (#20787) is also known as the Geek pattern plate. It has 14 cute images with each measuring 14mm by 25mm, suitable for most nail lengths and the images won’t overwhelm shorter nails as well. Like all my Born Pretty plates, the images transferred well and appear very clear.

Geek

ThisI have wanted to use the sunglasses image for so long!

The BP-L017 (#19372) is known as the Summer Beach Sea stamping plate. It has 21 images and most of these are measured at 14mm by 19mm. These images are all very summery and easy to use. I received this as part of my first UK Indie box last year, I have used this plate before and I am still happy with it 🙂

maniswap with Instagram nail artist @nellemiemani (Pastel neon gradient nails with geometric designs) @iamcherrylemon

Hello there! Hope it is a nice and sunny day where you’re at! It is hitting high 20s in the UK today. The Sun is actually burning my skin right now.

Today’s post is on my mani swap with the lovely Gaia (IG @nellemiemani). Gaia has the most delicate and cut nail shapes! Her nail art designs are fabulous and a good variation of techniques.

To be honest, I panicked a bit when it was my turn to choose one of her designs for the mani swap.  I suddenly realised most of Gaia’s designs are extremely suited to her small but cute nails.

Anyhow, I’ve picked to recreate one of her recent nail designs. It has a bright pastel background with gorgeous stamping. Gaia has chosen to recreate my pastel gradient mother’s day mani! I love her version alot and I love the fact the two manicures are so similar but different.

IG @nellemiemani check out Gaia’s profile on Instagram 🙂 it’s pretty awesome!
Products used to create my recreation:

  • Pueen – Visual wonderland Stamping plate
  • Painted polish in Midnight mischief
  • Pretty Serious neon pastels in Fluffykins,  Bunny foofoo, Peachie poo, Doodle bug, Cutie Patootie and also a bright yellow called “Honey puff”
  • Wikkid polish in Star Dust
  • Glisten and Glow HK girl fast drying top coat
  • Makeup sponge
  • Rainbow connection liquid latex cuticle protector

What do you think? 🙂

Thank you for reading and have a lovely day.

Meebox May 2017 – Lost City (Unboxing and inspired nail art)

Hello there! Another month another Meebox, yay!  I’m too excited, let’s get straight into unboxing!

Box content:

  • Ruby Wing colour changing polish in “Hello Sailor” £9.95
  • Cuccio nail polish in “Pier pressure” £7.50
  • Annika “Blue Lagoon” £4.20
  • House of Wonderland Meebox Lost City water decals £5
  • NCLA “Take it Off” Soy remover wipes £12.50 from nail polish direct

Total box retail value at just under £40

Ruby Wing “Hello Sailor”

This is a UV colour changing polish. At normal indoor state, this polish is a paler shimmery orange. It turns into a darker shimmer orange while being outdoor. I think these UV colour changing polishes are better for the summer! I’ve been trying to use thermal polishes recently and it won’t change colours because everything and everywhere is just so warm. Good addition to my collection, I already have another one from Ruby Wing and I adore it!

Cuccio “Pier pressure”

This is a pale pink nude beige, a very flattening shade on the nails. I like this very much and have already used it in many nail designs. It is easy to use, opaque and looking gorgeous in 2 coats.

Annika “Blue Lagoon”

This colour is just stunning, a bright and beautiful teal blue fabulous for the summer months. It applies beautifully and dries to a gorgeous high shine finish. I believe everyone needs this polish in their collection, I’m definitely keeping mine.

House of Wonderland Meebox Lost City decals

I don’t normally use decals because I’m such a stamping addict. But I do love the convenience of a water decal, cut, wet and apply. It can’t possibly get any easier 🙂 It involves very simple steps and it can look stunning. The designs on this sheet is fitting to the theme “Lost City”. The only thing I don’t quite like about it, is that the designs are printed too closely together on the sheet. It took me awhile to carefully cut round the designs I like. But other than that, the decals works great.

NCLA “Take it off” remover wipes

My cuticles are very prone to dryness, so the idea of non acetone removal wipes really interests me.

After one use, I do find it doesn’t dry my cuticles like acetone does. It feels kinder to my skin and nails. It did a great job at removing my mani.
What is Meebox?

Meebox is a monthly subscription box for people who loves nails and manicures. It costs £20 a month postage included. Every month, there will be 3 polishes (or more), nail art and nail care items.

Nail art

Here’s a manicure I’ve created using all the items from this month’s Meebox.

I totally abused the dry brush technique here! But I love how it turns out, the “Blue lagoon” and “Pier pressure” create a scene of strong waves. “hey sailor” shimmers through and looks absolutely amazing as the base colour. So… Without putting any words in your head.. Does it look like crashing waves and evening sunset in the tropics? :p

For the accent nails, I’ve used dry brush technique again, created a base for the water decals. I do like the look of this, and will definitely recreate the “crashing waves” soon.

What do you think??

Thank you for reading and have a great day!

#26GNAI 26 Great Nail Art Ideas – Lilac, Pink and Gold

26 Great Nail Art Ideas - Lilac, Pink and Gold

26 Great Nail Art Ideas – Lilac, Pink and Gold

Good morning and hope you are well! Today I am sharing another #26GNAI mani with you. This is for the prompt “Lilac, Pink and Gold”, and isn’t this colour combination lovely?

I have temporarily put my stamper to rest and did some gradient work complete with embellishment instead. But looking at the results, I will need to up my game on non-stamping nail art or just give it all up! I guess I am so used to having stamped manicures, and I rarely wear plain colours on their own…. Unless it is “plain” holographic polishes!

26 Great Nail Art Ideas - Lilac, Pink and Gold (gradient mani with gold nail studs) @iamcherrylemon

26 Great Nail Art Ideas – Lilac, Pink and Gold (gradient mani with gold nail studs) @iamcherrylemon

Products used:

  • Barry M Gelly nail paint in Prickly Pear
  • Trust Fund Beauty – Do you know who my father is?
  • The Body Shop – Gold party glitter polish (PR sample)
  • Danglefoot polish – Don’t dangle about (fast drying) top coat
  • Random nail decorations from Ali Express
  • Makeup sponge
  • Princess Nail Lacquer – Magic Flower base coat

Mini polish reviews:

The pale pink (Trust Fund Beauty) polish is one of the polishes received in last month’s Meebox. The formula is on a thicker side so it gradients easily and perfectly on the nail. The colour took me awhile to get used to, but now I really like this pale pink!

Barry M Prickly Pear has been a nail bloggers’ favourite for a long while and I believe you can see why. It is such an easy shade to wear, and it’s so so shiny.

The Body Shop glitter polish was sent to me as a PR review product. It contains gold and black glitter pieces in various sizes. The base is clear so you can wear this over any base colours. I did not sponge it on my nails, as I wanted a gentle glitter look (is there such a thing?) and not a full on version. The brush is thin but it can pick up a decent amount of glitter.

Thank you for reading and have a gorgeous day.

It’s MEEBOX time! April 2017 “Soft Scoop”

Hello there! Hope this post finds you well!

I have a belated unboxing for you today! It has been a busy month at work for me, hopefully it will calm down a bit soon. I can hope.
This month’s box is themed as “Soft Scoop”, so I was expecting to see pastel colours. I don’t have too many pastel polishes so I was really looking forward to this box.

This box was slightly delayed due to availability of some of the items within it. But it was well worth the wait!
So, let’s see what’s in the box!?

  • What’s up nails WG010 Neapolitan Confetti RRP £3
  • What’s up nails Dripping stencils RRP £3
  • Zoya matte velvet lacquer £10
  • Iz Beauty Gel Effect Baby Blue 6ml £6 for 6ml
  • Trust Fund Beauty “Do you know who my father is?” £9 for 17ml
  • Models own Scented polish in Banana Split £4.99 for 14ml

First of all, I really liked the formula of the Trust fund beauty polish. It might not be a shade that I’d picked but it looks really nice, it applies so well but that’s one giant bottle of polish!

Iz beauty polish, this baby blue is gorgeous but it is a tad too thin for my liking. I’ve applied 3 coats for opacity.

Models own scented polish, well well well, I liked the smell of the lid. I didn’t like the smell from the bottle nor when it’s dried on my nails. Despite that, I have no issue with the polish and loved using this for smooshy nails and gradient work. I would love to acquire more models own creme polishes. They will be fab too work with!

Zoya matte Velvet lacquer… It mattifies the nails.. does what it says on the can. It didn’t feel as smooth as my Freckles matte top coat.

My soft scoop inspired manicure

There’s a bit of everything here! I have smooshy nails on pointer and little fingers. Stamping decals on middle and ring fingers. Used a bit of stencils on the ring finger to create the melting ice cream effect. Added the round glitter onto the 2 smooshy nails. Busy, huh?

Products used:

  • Everything from the box including the matte top coat!
  • Uber Chic beauty stamping plate collection 9-01
  • Annika by Edge “White Swan” polish
  • Models own chrome Rose polish

I really like the matte look on this. Hope you like it too! Happy Saturday!

Thank you and take care x

Hello! I ought to post this alot earlier! But I accidentally overwritten this post, still do not understand how it happened, sob sob.
Anyhow, this is another nail art collaboration with the #MagneticMagicNails IG group, our theme was “Spring” and what it means to us. For me, Spring means new life, new beginnings and lots of beautiful flowers. So, I have chosen bright flowers with foliage.

Mini product reviews!
Sweet Lacquer “Dahlia” nail art stencils – I received some store creddits as part of my raffle prize which I won last year! Jen from Sweet Lacquer was so sweet, she let me use my store credit with the 50% offer. I have chosen quite a few and I loved how this flower looks. I have used the Celtic knots stencil here (link). All the stencils I have used here, peeled off really cleanly and effectively. Can’t wait to use the rest of my stencils!

Masura magnetic polishes – I love love love Masura magnetic polishes, they are afforable and an absolute joy to work with. I get most of my collection from Hypnotic polish (EU) and I believe C4N and Beautometry will be stocking Masura soon. You do need a strong magnet to work with these “heavy metal” polishes. I got my Masura magnet from Rainbow Connection for about £3.50 (approx $5USD).

Thank you and I hope you like this manicure 🙂

Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet in no. 5 Fawn @iamcherrylemon

Product review: Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet in No.5 Fawn with photo swatch

Morning! Today I am sharing a quick review post on a recent makeup purchase of mine. I have ordered a Liquid lip velvet (LLV) from Burberry. There are 14 shades available but the ones I originally wanted were out of stock. In the end, I went for a more neutral and natural looking shade, Fawn.

Official product description

A new statement-making matte cream colour with a comforting, whipped texture.

Developed with a new, innovative formula that combines rich pigment, smooth application and a whipped, creamy texture to create a bold, velvet finish that lasts for up to eight hours. The comfortable, non-drying formula keeps lips supple and moisturised during wear, ensuring the colour does not dry, fade or crack.

Available in our boldest palette, each of the 14 shades coats lips with a shot of saturated colour in one gliding movement.

Joining the Lip Velvet collection, new Liquid Lip Velvet provides a light-as-air feeling and a cushion-soft sensation upon application.

£26 for 6ml, Made in Italy

Fawn is a neutral brown shade with pink/peach undertone that goes pretty well with my warm skin tone. I originally thought this will be a “MLBB” shade, it pulls more brown on me.

The packaging is very nice, same shape and size as their lipgloss range. The lid is non-shiny and the tub is frosted.
The LLV has an airy texture to it, it applies smoothly and evenly. It felt very nice on the lips, like I wasn’t wearing lipstick at all. The matte-ness does not mean it will be non-transferable. In fact, it transferred onto all my cups and glasses which I was quite disappointed by. This means I will need to touch-up more often, I guess this is no different to normal lipsticks.

I also agree that this is highly pigmented, full coverage in 1 swipe.

I did not find this to be long-lasting, but I did wear lip balm so it might worn the longetivity down by alot!
Pros:

Beautiful palette of shades available

Comfortable to wear and non-drying

Unscented

Highly pigmented

No bleeding of colour into lines

Lovely packaging
Cons:

Expensive

Not non-transferable

Not long-lasting enough
In summary, I do like how comfortable it feels and pigmented it is but it will be unlikely for me to get another shade… I would prefer it to be longer lasting.
Thank you for reading and have a great day!!

Silicone Sponge for makeup application – HYPE?

BPS Silicone Makeup Sponges @iamcherrylemon

BPS Silicone Makeup Sponges @iamcherrylemon

Hi there!! This is a rare post on the blog today (hehehe), as I don’t do enough beauty product review anymore! But I really want to blog about this product! So….. what’s all this hype about Silicone sponges?

I totally missed the rave and hoo-haaa about SiliSponge, also known as “Beauty Blender Killer”. As a beauty blender user myself, I am all fired up to test and check out this sponge!
I first came across silicone sponges on BPS (again.. yes I stalk the site), and a pack of 3 was only $4.99. So I ordered it and forgot about them until they landed on my doorsteps few weeks ago. I have been trialing out the sponges for awhile and I would like to share my thoughts on them!

What is SiliSponge and the silicone sponges in general?
SiliSponge is a product invented by an indie makeup brand in HK called “Molly Cosmetics”, they sell the SiliSponge for around $9 but they are often a sell out on their site. SiliSponge is a flat sponge shaped silicone pad, yes it does look like “chicken filets”, or even gel shoe insoles! But these sponges are quite small! BPS ones measure at 4 by 6.5 cm.

These are technially NOT sponges, as the job of a sponge is to absorb. These silicone sponges have no pores like normal sponge, so that’s why it does not absorb any of the products. Hence, it has this huge claim on “zero product waste” and half the amount of normal product usage.
Huge claims, right?

My Tests
I have used my sponges with liquid foundations (YSL , Burberry Velvet), BB/CC Creams (TonyMoly and Eborian CC cream) and cream blushes.

BPS Silicone Makeup Sponges (foundation) @iamcherrylemon

BPS Silicone Makeup Sponges (foundation) @iamcherrylemon

First day, I was skeptical about it be able to half my product usage. So I squeezed out less than normal amount of foundation (around 70%) and started dabbing! The application with this sponge does take a bit of getting used to. Please do not use the sponge to push and rub the product onto your face! You will find that it is much easier to pat and spread! After quite a bit of dabbing and padding to make sure all the product is distributed evenly, I did look really *made* up. 70% of my normal amount is obviously too much when my sponge isn’t absorbing and wasting the rest!

Silicone Sponge tryout (before) @iamcherrylemon

Silicone Sponge tryout (before) @iamcherrylemon

Silicone Sponge tryout (after) @iamcherrylemon

Silicone Sponge tryout (after) @iamcherrylemon

For the rest of the week and after, I did get away with using just half or just over half. My make up still look natural and I much prefer this. This concludes how much my brush was absorbing if I had to *use* much more then. So to validate the point about saving product, I can vouch for that.

As you can see on my photos here, there is hardly any product left on the silicone sponge.

I wash my sponges with a makeup sanitiser soap or just hand soap, before drying the sponge with a soft tissue. I put it back into the clear tiny ziplock bag it came in, ready for next use.

BPS Silicone Makeup Sponges (Before use and After use) @iamcherrylemon

BPS Silicone Makeup Sponges (Before use and After use) @iamcherrylemon

Pros:

  • Virtually no product waste, so you will use less product. This means more money to buy other makeup to play with 😉
  • Quick, easy to clean and ready for next use (fab for makeup artists!?)
  • Squishy soft and non-scratchy (check before use! mine are pretty squishy)
  • Space saving, small and easy to carry and store. Great to take on holiday instead of foundation brush plus blush brushes!
  • Replicas are everywhere and pretty cheap

Cons:

  • Might feel delicate and prone to damages (ladies with sharp nails take care)
  • Application does take some practice
  • Might not *feel* natural to use flat sponge for around the nose, eye areas but with practise, it works just fine.

Where to buy:
Born Pretty store 1 piece for $1.99 or 3 pieces for $4.99 (free shipping)
Original SiliSponge, $9.90 https://www.mollycosmeticsshop.com/products/silisponge (free shipping)

BPS Silicone Makeup Sponges @iamcherrylemon

BPS Silicone Makeup Sponges @iamcherrylemon

My final thoughts: 3.5/5

Will I throw out all my makeup brushes and beauty blenders? No, but I welcome this little addition into my makeup kit. It is a joy to use (when you have time!), and easy to look after. I would recommend you to give it a go, it might change the way you apply your makeup and it might even save you money by reducing the amount of products you will need! You can pick some silicone sponges up for as little as $2. No harm I guess?

For me, I still do not think I have mastered the skills required in order to use this sponge effectively. It takes me longer to apply my makeup, and it won’t help me when I only get 15mins to rush out of my door every morning!

I do like this product, it is clever but it is not going to change my world completely.

Thank you and take care!

Note: I have purchased this product using my own money and not being compensated for my review. This post contains affiliate links.

Top 10 nail art products for beginners (you can buy all these from 1 shop!)

Hello there! It’s Friday, woo hoo! Hope you’re well! It’s actually snowing in the UK. I’m unusually happy about it, it looks so pretty 😂

WARNING: This could be a lengthy post 🙂

Today, I would like to share my top 10 Born Pretty nail art items. This post is totally inspired by the idea Stashy has given me (thank you Stashy)! A lot of people are probably finding the Born Pretty site overwhelming with the endless amount of products on offer. Well, I did when I first started looking at the site. Born Pretty store (BPS) sells so much and nail art is only a category! There are probably tens of thousands of options on the site. So I hope this post might be helpful to you if you’re new to the site and/or nail art.

Obviously, I won’t be including items that you can probably get cheaper elsewhere. Such as makeup sponges for gradient nails, cheap and cheerful polishes, cotton balls and acetone. Those things are just not feasible to buy from overseas.

This post is written totally base on my own experience with store, this is where I shop most when I first started with nail art.

What’s Born Pretty?
BPS is an online store; the department I often visit is the Nail Art section. BPS offers a huge selection of nail art items at a very attractive price point. It is great for regular and nail art beginners, who want to build up their collection of tools! Or even, just to try out a nail art trend but doesn’t want to invest too much (that’s me, I only just obtained the mermaid powder!). To be honest, I have not had any issue until recently, where BPS had a huge anniversary event and that delayed all my orders by 6 weeks! Normally, my orders take 10 to 15 days to reach me in the UK.

OK, on to the interesting bit! My top 10! (If you are not interested in nail stamping then proceed to item number 6!) Stamping is fun! 😉

Number 1. Short Red clear XL stamper

XL red short stamper (BP haul July 2016) @iamcherrylemon

XL red short stamper (BP haul July 2016) @iamcherrylemon

This is my favourite and best find from BPS to date, and I have been using the site for few years! There are many “identical looking” stampers on the market, some costing few times more but obviously they are readily available without the extensive shipping time. You can also purchase this stamper from Aliexpress at an even cheaper price. I prefer to buy mine from BPS because it is like a one-stop shop for me.

This stamper head measures 3.5cm in diameter; it is large enough for most nail lengths. I love the fact that the barrel is short, easy to handle, and really to see through at stamped image! A clear stamper is essential for accurate placement of the stamped image when alignment is required, or when you are doing layered stamping too. It makes the job a lot easier.
As with other clear stampers, the red clear stamper mighty not be completely beginner friendly. It might take a few practice runs with the image pick-up. Just remember to use a light rolling action when you are picking images. Never prime a clear stamper with acetone too.

Check my existing post for a more detailed review. I love it, and I don’t think you can go wrong with this great little stamper at this price! Currently at $3.99

Number 2. Christmas Nail Art Stamper Starry Sky Silicone Head  (new purchase!)

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items - Christmas Nail Art Starry Sky Stamper @iamcherrylemon

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items – Christmas Nail Art Starry Sky Stamper @iamcherrylemon

For this starry sky stamper, not only does it look cute but it picks up images really easily too. It has a soft and sticky stamper head. I use this when I do not need to line my stamped images. This stamper has a short-ish metal barrel, with snowman printed all over it!
For me, a good stamper is one that you can use with multiple stamping plates and various stamping polishes. This galaxy stamper certainly fits this criteria. $3.59 each now

Continuing with the nail stamping mind-set..

Number 3. Stamping polishes

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items - Stamping polishes @iamcherrylemon

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items – Stamping polishes @iamcherrylemon

I have purchased the black, grey, light green and the gold stamping polish from this range. I can say, hands on heart that these stamping polishes really impressed me! They actually have a permanent spot on my nail art work station!

This black stamping polish is super pigmented and works with all the plates I’ve tried in my collection. It works every time for me, the images are crisp sharp without patchiness. This gold polish stamps very well, but it is a very warm yellow shade.
They outperform many other brands, and work just as well as some of the more well-known stamping polishes. Look out for this 15ml bottle for stamping polishes, in my experience, these perform better than the other lines I’ve tried.  $3.99 a bottle

It is important to choose the right scrapers to use as well. I will not be including scrapers in my top 10!! as I believe an old credit card, store card would do. You can purchase scrapers from Born Pretty, but most of their stampers come with 2 scrapers. I received 2 small clear flexible scrapers with my galaxy stamper and 2 small firm plastic scrapers with the Short red clear XL stamper.

Number 4. Stamping plates

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items – New purchases @iamcherrylemon

I have more than 30 BPS stamping plates in my collection, mostly the rectangular ones, as for some reason I am not too keen on using round plates due to my nail lengths. I am almost guaranteed that the images from these rectangular plates will fit my slightly longer nails. Some of the images on round plates are catered for shorter nails only. Born Pretty Stamping Plates from $1.99

I won’t be able to pick one favourite plate, but here are the ones that I use most often and are my favourites.

BPS launches new stamping plate pretty often, they are normally priced (discounted) at $1.99 to $2.99 for the rectangular plates. Again, I have never had any issue with images not picking up. The designs are nice and plate are good quality, etched very well for perfect transfers.

Number 5. Cotton claw

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items - Cotton Claw @iamcherrylemon

Born Pretty Nail Art Store Top 10 items – Cotton Claw @iamcherrylemon

If you ever use acetone to clean stamping plates, it is best to get a cotton claw. This is one of those things you never thought you will need! But once you have used one, you will wonder why you lived without one for so long! During my early days of stamping nails, I was using a clothes peg to hold my acetone-saturated cotton balls to clean my stamping plates. Needless to say, it doesn’t really work every single time! This cotton claw is extremely convenient, use this instead of your newly polished fingers to touch cotton balls! No more accidentally ruined nails! Use a cotton ball not cotton pad, as those might be too thin and you run the risk of scratching your precious stamping plates!

One of my very first nail art tools ever, it happens to have been bought from BPS. These dotting tools are very versatile, you can creating dotticure, use it to draw and paint nail art. I have been using mine for years and they still look brand new! This is a wonderful addition to any starting nail art lover! Highly recommend these if you are a beginner, as dotticure is one of the easiest nail art to accomplish. 5x 2way DOTTING Pen Marbleizing Tool Nail Art Dot Paint at $2.99

I got this set of brushes at the same time of when I’ve bought my dotting tools. I’ve used these to death (check out the bandages on them!), but they are still working but might have seen better days! These brushes are so cheap, but they can take alot of abuse! Yes… I’ve left polishes on these overnight. The brush sizes are perfect but still great for detailing work. You don’t have to be a wonderful artist to do any nail art at all. To begin with, I have tried waterfall manicure and I’ve used these brushes for that (see below for my waterfall mani). BPS does not sell my set anymore, but here’s the closest set I can find.

Number 8. Stamping nail art mat

Born Pretty Stamping Nail Art Mat - product review @iamcherrylemon

Born Pretty Stamping Nail Art Mat – product review @iamcherrylemon

You do not need to do stamping to use this mat, as it serves as desk protection. You will understand if you have ever spilled a bottle of nail polish.

Recently reviewed on my blog! I do like a good mat, this one is cheap and cheerful, it does what a stamping mat should do!

Number 9. Nail art decorations

This is not one item but one category, I cannot recommend just 1 roll of striping tapes right? I just want to show you what type of decorations are available (then I realised I forgot to include nail striping tapes in the photo!).
BPS sells lots of different decorations, I will recommend to get some striping tapes, some nail rhinestones or studs, some water decals for those lazy nail art days. Nail foils are great and easy to apply. You will need foil glue, BPS sells some generic foil glue that works well. I have tried many topcoat on foils but only Picture Polish “Revolution” works well and not destroy the foil nail art.
Here are some of the manis I have done using water decals, tapes and rhinestones.

OK who enjoys cleaning up after nail art? I don’t, I hate it.. this is where this item comes in handy!! You basically use these to protect your cuticles, no more using cleaning up brush dipped in acetone. NO more mess after watermarbling or gradient! 10pcs/Sheet Latex-Free Cuticle Protecting Adhesive U-Shape Nail Tapes $1.99 for a pack of 10

WOW, what a long post.. if you last until this bit.. well done you!!! I hope this post has helped you a little in deciding on what items to get for your nail art adventure. But again, bear in mind that shipping can take a long time!! I normally place an order and forgotten about it until it arrives on my door steps 😛 I enjoy shopping there and I will continue to stalk their stamping plate page for new products! hehehe

All items purchased by me using my own money, apart from the Stamping nail art mat which was sent to me for honest review.

Should you have any question regarding this post or how to use these products, leave me a comment and I will get back to you. Ah don’t forget to use the code FTL91, BPS will sponsor a giveaway once we get enough clicks and use!

Thank you so much for reading! Have an awesome day 😀

Product Review: Born Pretty silicone stamping nail art mat

Born Pretty Stamping Nail Art Mat - product review @iamcherrylemon

Born Pretty Stamping Nail Art Mat – product review @iamcherrylemon

Born Pretty nail art store has kindly sent me a few nail art items for review. I will be sharing my thoughts on this stamping mat today.

I have been using my trusty Uber Chic stamping mat for at least 2 years and it has been a godsend. It was the first of its kind that started the nail mat craze. Now the market is saturated with stamping mats, there are so many different ones to choose from? Are they all the same? What features to look out etc.?

First question first.. Do you paint your nails? Yes? You’ll need one! No kidding, the most basic function of a stamping mat is to protect your work surfaces. I cannot tell you how many times a stamping mat has saved my table from acetone and spilled polishes!

Function of a stamping nail art mat (any brand!)

  • Flexible, non-slip mat to protect your work surface from polish and acetone spills. Some mats do slip, but unfortunately you won’t know until you have tested it on your own work surface!
  • Good sized work area for making decals (reverse stamping, stamping or vinyl decals). It is true that you can create decals using clear sandwich bags, that’s where I started few years ago! But I do prefer to use a mat for convenience and ease, as these stamping mats are purposely made for this type of activities.
  • Work area to test out colour combinations and design try-outs. I normally test my design on a mat first, rather than on my nails… just in case it didn’t work well or I have changed my mind about the designs. Plus I don’t want to repaint the base layers (base coat, couple coats of the base colour of polish plus top coat before any nail art!).
  • Easy clean-up, all mats should be easy to clean and it should be acetone and polish proof.

What to look for when choosing a stamping mat?

In terms of what to look for, it really depends on what you are planning to do with it. Stamping mats are getting so jazzy nowadays; some are fairly basic like this Born pretty one.

Size: Determining what size of mats you will need really depends on the size of your current work space; number of nail polish bottles; other nail art tools for a single mani.

Your budget: There are mats that cost less than £5 to ones that cost more than £20. It seems that the price reflects on quality on these mats, but be aware that you might be also just be paying for the brand name as well. Look around, there are branded mats that are just plain “good looking” without special features.

*information accurate as of 3rd January 2017

This Born Pretty one is fairly basic and its price reflects that, it doesn’t have the coloured printed nail shapes for various colour stamping tests (noting the DRK nails stamping mats); it does not have the fancy collapsible watermarbling cup (noting the Twinkled T Glam Mat, probably the queen of all mats with the price to match!); No grids/bevelled edge (noting the Bliss Kiss Simply Neat Miracle Mat); only available in opaque white, DRK nails stamping mats come in an array of colours! So, what’s important to you?

Born Pretty Stamping nail art mat review

I have received the larger version of their mats; it measures 28cm by 21cm. The smaller version measures at 21cm by 15cm. My Uber Chic was bigger compare to this BPS one, measures at 30.5cm by 40.5cm.

Born Pretty Stamping Nail Art Mat – product review @iamcherrylemon

Features:

  • Semi opaque white and see-through enough for creating freehand decals!
  • 2 white swatch circles plus 5 white and 5 black rounded/oval nail shapes on the left hand side of the mat; 2 black swatch circles plus 5 white and 5 black square nail shapes on the right hand side of the mat. These areas are for easy size referencing if you are making decals. I use the circles for testing colour combinations and general dib-dabbing!
  • There’s a 5cm “ruler” printed at the top edge of the mat, not that I have the need to use it (yet!). Plus 4 white and 4 black swatch sticks shapes printed by the ruler.
  • The mat is approx. 2mm thick, probably very slightly thicker than the Uber Chic stamping mat.

Born Pretty Stamping Nail Art Mat – product review @iamcherrylemon

Pros:

  • Acetone and polish proof
  • Flexible and non-slip
  • Lightweight and made with good silicone material
  • Comes with a cardboard tube for storage
  • Easy clean with sticky tape, acetone or polish remover
  • Cheap! And easy-ish to obtain, just need to be patient with the delivery times!
  • Semi-opaque (Check out how I draw my designs on my Halloween pumpkin nails and create nail decals from tracing over this mat!)

Cons:

  • Delivery might take a long time depending where you are
  • Lack of colour choices
  • Very basic stamping mat with no fancy features. It would be cool if BPS comes out with a deluxe version with some really cool features!

Ps. do not underestimate the importance of the storage tube for this mat. You should store the mat away to prevent it gathering dust overnight (or over a week in my case), or other bits and bobs sticking on it. Trust me, your mat will last so much longer and looking newer for longer if you look after it. I wish I did with my Uber Chic mat!

Nail tutorials (using Born Pretty Stamping mat!)

  1. Halloween Freehand Decals – Pumpkin
  2. Halloween – Bats

Actually, most of my nailart tutorials are done on this BPS mat in the last few months.

Final thoughts:

I have been road testing this mat for over 3 months, I’ve used it for creating nail decals (vinyl and stamping), testing out designs, colour pairing polishes and generally as a work surface protective mat.

I still do not know if this mat stains, with the polishes (including highly pigmented stamping polishes) I have used in the last few months, none of them have stained my mat. But I do avoid those well-known nail-staining polishes! I have left dried polishes and stamping polishes on the mat overnight and for a few days. They did not stain the mat.

As recommended by some mat makers, do not leave your stamper head(s) on the mat for too long. It might cause irreversible bubbling on the mat. I love my mats and I have not tried to test this out!

I do like this handy sized, cheap and cheerful mat, it acts as a nice plain background for my nail art tutorials too!

Go with your needs when choosing a nail mat, you may fancy some high end mats or mats with more features. You might prefer one brand to another too! I have the Twinkled T Glam mat and Moyou London Magic Workshop to review in the future. So I can do comparison once I have tried them and will post about it.
