Halloween Manicure: Holographic Mummies and Born Pretty nail art brush set review #40899

#PRSAMPLE
Hallow, hello!
Today, I am sharing a manicure I did for a Halloween nail art prompt, “mummies”. For this mani, I freehand the design using a set of nail art brushes I’ve received from Born Pretty.
“Mummies” is one of the themed nail art challenge prompt from #clairestelle8Halloween for 2017.

Halloween manicure: Mummies (Holographic nails) @iamcherrylemon

Halloween manicure: Mummies (Holographic nails) @iamcherrylemon

Products used:

  • Born Pretty nail art brush set #40899
  • Wikkid polishes in Ultra Holo “Parma Violet”, “Candy Floss”, “Chartreuse” and “Shades of Jade”
  • Wikkid “Ultra shine top coat”
  • Black and white acrylic paints

To recreate:
1. Paint your nails with your chosen holo nail polishes
2. Hand draw the bandages by using diagional lines across the nails
3. Add eyes
4. Add top coat onto all nails

I quite enjoy freehand nail art, this design is easy to complete and fun to do. I wished I took more care in drawing the lines, this is what happens when you need to wear glasses but don’t! ha!
Although this is cute, as a scaredy cat in her trun form. I got the creeps and had to take this design off soon after taking pictures! gosh I need to grow up and be brave, wahahaha!

This looks cute (but creepy scary to me), what do you think? 🙂

Mini review on the Born Pretty Liner Brush Set #40899
This is a set of 3 nail art brushes, these have gourd handles to make it very easy to handle and let the user have a firm and steady grip on the brush.
The bristles are not long, soft and very flexible. It makes them great for drawing and colouring in designs. The brush sizes of this set are very similar but they are not thin, the bristle lengths are different (see picture below).

These are not suited for ultra fine, detailed work. I use another set of BPS brushes for detailed work and thin lines. I do not expect 1 set of brushes to fit all my nail art design needs.

I love the grip handles on these brushes, they feel comfortable on the hand and glide effortlessly on the nail.
Overall, this nail art brush set is great and its price make it unbeatable! I can foresee myself reaching out for this set whenever I need a brush for stamping decal making, general nail art designs. (plus, I can finally retire my 3 years old brush set from BPS! They lasted me for 3 years and still hold up to all type of abuse I throw at them.)

This set of brushes are currently priced at USD $2.29 Born Pretty online store

Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

NOTE: The nail art brush was sent to me by Born Pretty PR, for honest review and testing. All other items are mine and purchased by me. This post is not sponsored and does not contain any affiliated links. But please feel free to use my 10% discount code FTL91 for all non-discounted items.

26 Great Nail Art Ideas – Dotting Tools but not just dots! (Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream inspired manicure) #26GNAI

wp-1504218054777.

Hello! It is #26gnai time again. This week’s prompt is about dotting tools, but not just dots on the nails.
I love using my dotting tools, I get my set from Born Pretty (click here for mini review) few years ago and they are still looking very nice.

I have always wanted to recreate a Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream inspired manicure for years, but never got round to actually complete. You don’t need alot of tools, just 2 sizes of dotting tools (or toothpicks!) to create these. So this manicure, is pretty perfet for this challenge prompt!

Products used:

  • Models Own Soft Pop Collection in Sugar Rush
  • Colour Alike Kind of White stamping polish
  • Polish My Life – Sexy Shoreline
  • Wikkid polish in Cosmic Dust and Ultra Shine top coat
  • Few round gold studs from Born Pretty

How to create a Marc Jacobs Daisy inspired manicure:
1. I started off with a good layer of base coat
2. Next, painting my thumb, pointer and little fingers using the Model Own pastel blue polish. Middle finger was painted with the light beige.
3. Sponged on Cosmic Dust on my ring finger for full opacity
4. Using a dotting tool, dab some white polish and create the “daisies” with white dots
5. Add a drop of clear polish (or nail glue) to centre of each daisy, add the round gold stud
6. Finish off with a layer of ultra shine top coat

Easy peasy and I cannot believe why I didn’t try this manicure beforehand.

Thank you and hope you have a lovely day 🙂

Total Solar Eclipse manicure (21st August 2017) Maggie Anne Beauty nail polish in Pearl @iamcherrylemon

Total solar eclipse August 21st, 2017 (celebratory celestial manicure)

Hi there, did you wonder why there is a post about total eclipse coming from a nail blog? I know I would, if i saw it popping up in my feed 😉

Today is the day, when the total solar eclipse will be visible across the northern America. This event last happened in the states back in 1918! The most impressive and memorable total solar eclipse for me was back in my primary (junior) school days. I remember the entire group of students were just staring at the eclipsed sun directly without any protective eyewear (please do not repeat!). But it was surely spectacular.

So I planned this mani for the #TwinsieTuesdayNailArt on Instagram. This is the weekly challenge that I participate and really enjoy. This week’s prompt is “Celestial” nd you still have time to submit if you are interested. Just complete a mani according to the theme Celestial, tag @99probsbutmynailsaint1 and use the hashtag 🙂 So easy and simple.

This mani took less than half an hour on both hands! It was pretty straight forward and it does not require many polishes/tools.

Products used:

  • Maggie Anne Beauty nail polish in Pearl
  • Opi Alpine Snow
  • Glisten & Glow HK girl fast drying top coat
  • A makeup sponge and some curved vinyl/tapes

I first painted my nails using the black polish, applied a layer of fast drying top coat. Once ready, I applied the curved tape/vinyl onto 2 accent nails.
Add small amount of white and black polishes on the sponge and dabbing gently along the curve! I added the diamond ring effect too 😉

Thank you for visiting and good luck if you are preparing to witness the total solar eclipse today.

AZNailArtChallenge M for Musical (Nail Collage) @iamcherrylemon

Hiya! Hope you’re well. I will have to write up tons of backlogged blog posts in reverse order, might also need to skip some too. #Procrastination is not a good friend!

Here we have the manicure created for the AZ nail art challenge, M for music. I’ve wanted to create something similar since I’ve received the plate. I was so glad when AZ announced the theme of Music! Perfect timing! If you are not familiar with AZnailartchallenge, this is a nail art challenge on Instagram where the hosts decide on the theme based on the letter of the fortnight. For example, if we are on the week where we have assigned the alphabet N (this is current month’s letter and theme!), the theme could have been Neons, Numbers etc But this month’s theme is N for Nautical! All participants can create a manicure using any technique, colours, style/design as long as the mani is created within the stated theme.

I started with a solid baby blue base colour, then dry brushed the purple shimmer, gold, blue and pearl stamping polishes onto each nail. Then double stamped the images with the gold and black stamping polishes with the chosen images from the same plate.

Mini review on the Born Pretty stamping plate BPL-59

This plate has a good mixture of music related images, Many of the designs are great for various nail lengths. I love the bird, music scores and the piano. I did not have any issue picking up the images with my trusty “Born pretty Clear duo XL stamper” stamper and my Painted polish. Each image is well etched and easy to pick up. I use pure acetone for plate clean up.

You can get this plate for $2.99 from Born Pretty Online Store (not affiliated)

Thank you and have a great week!

Meebox May 2017 – Lost City (Unboxing and inspired nail art)

Hello there! Another month another Meebox, yay!  I’m too excited, let’s get straight into unboxing!

Box content:

  • Ruby Wing colour changing polish in “Hello Sailor” £9.95
  • Cuccio nail polish in “Pier pressure” £7.50
  • Annika “Blue Lagoon” £4.20
  • House of Wonderland Meebox Lost City water decals £5
  • NCLA “Take it Off” Soy remover wipes £12.50 from nail polish direct

Total box retail value at just under £40

Ruby Wing “Hello Sailor”

This is a UV colour changing polish. At normal indoor state, this polish is a paler shimmery orange. It turns into a darker shimmer orange while being outdoor. I think these UV colour changing polishes are better for the summer! I’ve been trying to use thermal polishes recently and it won’t change colours because everything and everywhere is just so warm. Good addition to my collection, I already have another one from Ruby Wing and I adore it!

Cuccio “Pier pressure”

This is a pale pink nude beige, a very flattening shade on the nails. I like this very much and have already used it in many nail designs. It is easy to use, opaque and looking gorgeous in 2 coats.

Annika “Blue Lagoon”

This colour is just stunning, a bright and beautiful teal blue fabulous for the summer months. It applies beautifully and dries to a gorgeous high shine finish. I believe everyone needs this polish in their collection, I’m definitely keeping mine.

House of Wonderland Meebox Lost City decals

I don’t normally use decals because I’m such a stamping addict. But I do love the convenience of a water decal, cut, wet and apply. It can’t possibly get any easier 🙂 It involves very simple steps and it can look stunning. The designs on this sheet is fitting to the theme “Lost City”. The only thing I don’t quite like about it, is that the designs are printed too closely together on the sheet. It took me awhile to carefully cut round the designs I like. But other than that, the decals works great.

NCLA “Take it off” remover wipes

My cuticles are very prone to dryness, so the idea of non acetone removal wipes really interests me.

After one use, I do find it doesn’t dry my cuticles like acetone does. It feels kinder to my skin and nails. It did a great job at removing my mani.
What is Meebox?

Meebox is a monthly subscription box for people who loves nails and manicures. It costs £20 a month postage included. Every month, there will be 3 polishes (or more), nail art and nail care items.

Nail art

Here’s a manicure I’ve created using all the items from this month’s Meebox.

I totally abused the dry brush technique here! But I love how it turns out, the “Blue lagoon” and “Pier pressure” create a scene of strong waves. “hey sailor” shimmers through and looks absolutely amazing as the base colour. So… Without putting any words in your head.. Does it look like crashing waves and evening sunset in the tropics? :p

For the accent nails, I’ve used dry brush technique again, created a base for the water decals. I do like the look of this, and will definitely recreate the “crashing waves” soon.

What do you think??

Thank you for reading and have a great day!

Instagram Birthday Collaboration for Natasha @iamcherrylemon

Hi and good morning! I was super happy to be in the nail art collaboration to celebrate Natasha’s birthday on 11th April. Natasha (@natasha_dauncey) is a very lovely lady, she co-hosts the monthly #maniswapcircle with Angela (@glacewing). Natasha has really elegant nail shapes and designs, so make sure you check her out on IG.

There were so many of us in this collab, it felt like another maniswapcircle round! But for this collab, we were given prompts and colour suggestions. I chose to recreate one of Natasha’s manicure in the colour scheme suggested (blue, teal and mint).

Products used;

  • Barry M Gelly Nail Paints in Blue Grape and Greenberry
  • Born Pretty black stamping polish and nail art brush
  • Moyra white stamping polish
  • Freckles polish in You make me so matte

I am beyond happy on how this manicure turns out, as it is just so vibrant and bold! It was easy to recreate thanks to Youtube tutorial that I found online! The key is to use very pigmented polishes!

Ikat is such a great nail art design, I might revisit this design in the future too.

Thank you so much for checking in and take care!

Trendy Zig-a-zag manicure: #WithCakeAndI Birthday Collaboration on Instagram @iamcherrylemon

Hello there! Back in end of Feb, a group of us on Instagram came together for a nail art collab to celebrate Cath’s birthday. Cath is a very lovely lady with amazing nail art talents, you should check out her profile on IG @WithNailsAndI .

The birthday hastag is #WithCakeAndI, make sure you click on this on IG to check out other lovely manicures for this beautiful collab 😉

Products used:

  • Lina nail art supplies Feeling Shapely #2
  • OPI lacquer in Alpine Snow
  • Painted Polish Midnight mischief
  • Kure Bazaar polish in Pigalle
  • Nail art brush by Sparkly Nails.co.uk
  • Born Pretty galaxy sticky stamper

I had to apply the red glitter using the nail art brush as it was very challenging to pack a lot of glitter in such little space! I also believe the use of French nail tip guide will be great for drawing on the borders. It was a great experience to recreate a mani for a lovely friend and learn some new tricks!

Thank you for reading and have a great day 😉

I’ve joined the Instagram magnetic magic group and participate in the latest challenge. At first, I thought I needed to practice drag marbling so I jumped in at the challenge. Little did I know just how much practising I needed to create a decent drag marble manicure.

Most of the ladies in the group also struggled (OK I struggled, the ladies just needed more practising!) with the technique. But everyone was extremely helpful and supportive to each other. I love this friendliness on IG nail community!!
Products used:

  • Masura magnetic polishes in Goldstone and Mountain Azurite
  • Polish my Life in Peaches, Anyone?
  • Whatsup nails Pure colours watermarbling tool
  • Seche Vite Fast drying top coat

I’ve created the decals on my stamping mat before transferring into my nails. I find out easier to drag on the mat.
I’m no expert but it seems the only way to overcome something you’re not familiar at, is to practise, practise and practise some more!
Drag marble is still not within my comfort zone but it doesn’t stop me from having a go every now and then 😉
Thank you for reading! Happy Wednesday 🙂

Instagram Nail Art challenge #clairestell8jan Part 2

Morning everyone! What a wet and gloomy Monday for us here in the UK. It isn’t cold but it is just drizzling non stop.
Today we are finalising the post on January nail art challenge that I’ve been participating. I’ve completed all 7 prompts and here are the last 4. Check out part 1 for previous entries to the challenge.

Prompt #4. Home Decor Inspired
Here are some nails with Moroccan style and design influences, I have always been intrigued by its boldness and use of colours. I’ve included the googled images that totally inspired this look!

Prompt #5. Circles
You can see lots of dots making up the circular shapes, but I don’t actually have a sold circle apart from the nail studs. Oh dear.
I like the base colour “Ring of Fire” used for this mani, as this is part of the prize from the draw I was lucky enough to win. I’m very grateful to be able to participate and actually winning something is an absolute joy! The polish itself is great towork with, 2 coats for full opacity, needs 1 layer of top coat for smoothness.

Prompt #6. Out of your comfort zone
So, what could be more out of my comfort zone than watermarbled nails? I have attempted this technique twice and I weren’t too proud of them!
What made the difference this time round, I believe is the tool.. the polishes.. the termperature of the room… and the alignment of all the planets in the universe (wahahaha).

Prompt #7. Holographic
I was going to go all out with my super holographic polishes, but since this prompt coincides with Chinese New Year. I took this opportunity to combine the two by using a lovely magenta pink thermal with holo glitter pieces! The transition colours are amazing in this Femme Fatale’s Clever Girl polish. It looks so pretty in real life, I want a back up!!

Instagram Nail Art Challenge “clairestelle8Jan” (Theme: Animal) 14th Jan 2017 (Moyra Animalisic stamping plate and freehand leopard spots) @iamcherrylemon

Instagram Nail Art Challenge #ClaireStelle8Jan part 1

Morning, hope you’re well on this fine day!

Today, I’m sharing part 1 of 2 blog posts on nail art challenge. This post contains the 3 manicures I’ve completed for the challenge so far.

Prompt #1. Nail Vinyls

For this mani, I’ve used the Hypnose stencil by What’s up nails, this is available from Nail stencils UK.

The swirls is used with 3 Cirque Colour polishes, namely the famous Halcyon, Idyllic and Ambrosia. Idyllic and Halcyon used for the radial gradient. These are from the CC Winter collection 2016.

Vinyls are easy to use, the trickiest part for me was to get the stencil out and I wanted to keep the leftovers on the paper.

I’m not so sure about this mani, it certainly looked better in my head!

Prompt #2. Silver

For this prompt, I’ve created a stamping mani with metallic glitter accent. Very simple!

Products used:

  • Uber Chic beauty Texture-licious stamping plate
  • Barry M Foil effects in Silver
  • Cirque Colours in Idyllic
  • Danglefoot Bluedapest
  • Rhinestones from Born Pretty

Prompt #3. Animals

This mani is freehand leopard spots with blue and gold. Accent nail is a gorgeous image of a leopard face, this image is from Moyra Animalistic plate. With its white base, it looks more like a snow leopard 🙂

Polishes used:

  • Opi Alpine Snow
  • Zoya polish in Goldie
  • Hit the bottle polish in Electronic Indigo
  • Born Pretty black stamping polish

Thank you, and hope you have a great Thursday?!
