Hi there! I’m super excited when these little stampers were available in the US! They look super cute and the short barrel means I don’t have to peek through it to see if my images and decals are pin sharp! I’ve been waiting for them to land on our side of the shores for awhile. Very happy to find out from Rampartnails that she found them on Ali Express. Then I stumbled upon Born Pretty (BPS) ones! These are purchased from BPS with free shipping.
My mini haul includes the 2 short stampers, a lace flower stamping plate and a fan brush. I actually ordered a midi ring too but it’s missing from my package. I’ll contact BPS customer services team soon.
This is a mini review of the short xl clear stampers, so I’ve picked couple of plates and various stamping polishes to test.
- Plate #1 Moyra plate Primeva (with some finely etched patterns)
- Plate #2 Born Pretty lace flowers stamping plate (part of my mini haul)
- Polish #1 Moyra white stamping polish
- Polish #2 Hit the Bottle “Poison Apple”
- Polish #3 Edk ultra holo Orion
- Polish #4/5 (Flash tests only) Color Alike Golden Queen and CBL Bleeding hearts
Some Moyra stamping plates are notoriously hard to pick up as the images are very finely etched. I’ve tried these clear xl short stampers on the finest (and cutest!) pattern on the plate.
The clear one is made entirely of plastic and the top of the stamper barrel is fixed (the bit you have to peek through to see your image from the “right” side). It comes with a cap which is very handy! Plus 2 firm plastic card scrapers.
The red stamper is my favourite of the two. The barrel is made of metal, the weight really feels good and made it easier to handle. Again it came with a cap and 2 firm plastic card scrapers.
They are both squishy firm.
Tests using different polishes
These two xl short stampers pick up images well but also suffer from the same bad image pick up as other clear stampers with some polishes. This is caused by polish/plate incompatibility (my own opinion!) See image below.
On the clear stamper, the stamper head kept being pushed into the barrel (see picture). This happens to my other cheap clear stampers too. You can push your nails less hard but it should not move into the barrel! A little bit frustrating.
I’ve read it online that you can fix this problem with a craft glue gun. The red stamper does not suffer from this as much as the clear one.
- Short! Not easily knocked over on my work top
- Easier to see your image/decal from the right way up
- Absolutely best for creating intricate stamping decals! You can see every single detail very easily!
- The clear stamper’s stamper head kept being pushed into the barrel
These stampers are very good for the price. I would definitely repurchase if I have to replace them.
You can buy these from Born Pretty online store or from Rainbow connection (super fast shipping). They might be slightly differently from Rainbow connection, please check as mine were not purchased there.
I personally prefer to use the flexi-scraper (not included with short stampers). But the firm scrapers are good when stamping with thicker polishes as it doesn’t take as much polish off the image on the plate.
