Hiya! In my last post on the mini Burberry Beauty haul. I said I’m not keen on BB cream but here I am. .. posting a review on the BB cream.
I have tried a few high street bb creams before and the only one I liked was L’oreal nude bb. But due to limited choice in shades, I don’t suit light nor medium shades. Since then, I haven’t really tried anymore BB creams.
What is the product?
Burberry Fresh Glow bb is a newly launched product alongside with the Summer Showers collection. There are 5 shades available, fair, medium, dark, nude rose and nude honey.
You can buy the first three shades from Burberry Beauty counters and their beauty specialist stores. The last 2 shades are created for the Asian market and not available at any UK counters (informed by JL lady) but are available from the official website. Formulation between the shades are different.
What’s the difference?
- Fair (No.1), Medium (No.2), Dark (No.3) are all spf 20, described as skin perfecting BB cream.
- Nude Rose (No.1 for Asian Skin/cool tone) and Nude Honey (No.2 for Asian Skin/warm tone) are spf 30 PA+++, described as a CORRECTING balm.
- have moisturising extracts to enhance hydration
- contains skin-match colour pigments for natural looking finish
- enhance skin luminosity and tone, recreating healthy looking glow of a youthful complexion (wooo I want :P)
- enriched with rosehip, tea and lavender extracts
I like the sound of SPF 30 PA+++ !!
Choosing the right shade
I’m normally between Mac nc25 to nc30, (Nars Punjab or Estee Lauder 2W1).
I went to Burberry Beauty counter in John Lewis Oxford Street. I was matched with medium (for brightening) or use deep for a sunkissed look (??). I didn’t fancy forking out £30 for a bb cream that doesn’t match me. The lady at the counter told me to try the nude honey (no.2 for Asian skin). The shade is similar to shade medium but had a warm undertone to it.
This is when I bravely ordered nude honey from the website. If you’re similar skintone to me. Please check this swatch out for comparison between brands. If you are outside of the UK, I would suggest that you go and swatch the shade out first.
As you can see from the swatches, the Burberry BB looks more dewy compared to the MAC mineralised foundation (which is another dewy look foundation).
My take on the product
The coverage is light to light/medium and is build-able. The BB cream comes with a pump dispenser, 1 pump for me is sheer coverage and I normally use 1.5 to 2 pumps for near-medium coverage. I find using the beauty blender/makeup sponge works the best for me.
It gives a dewy skin finish, evens out my skin tone a little. It does not cover my blemishes and discolouration. The smell fades pretty quickly after application.
This bb cream feels light on skin, easy to blend and slightly moisturising. I have some dry patches near my jawline but they seem to have been taken care of.
Nude honey looks perfect once blended out, I’m not sure if it is because it IS my shade or the skintone adjusting properties are working. Anyhow it is not too warm toned on me and blends in very nicely. EL Double Wear 2W1 is a perfect shade in terms of tone and shade for me at the moment, and it does appear to be darker than nude honey.
when used alone + primer: 3 to 4 hours. All bb creams (including this one) do not last me all day. I often find the areas such as oily t-zone melt away first.
Setting with powder + primer: About 4 hours and I will need to touch up with the powder
Setting with setting spray + primer: 6 hrs and I can see fading in my t-zone. But all other areas are looking good after 7 to 8 hours.
DRAWING my own conclusion here. .., I believe this BB cream will perform better on normal to slightly drier skin. 😛
My friend has bought the shade medium, this is one of the 3 standard shades. She finds her shade to be very sheer but still buildable. She has normal skin and the BB cream is lasting between 4 to 5 hours without setting powder.
The Goods: Light weight; sheer; moisturising; tone-adjusting to suit the wearer
The Bads: Below average staying power; very pricey;
Price: £30 for 30ml
Availability: Burberry online and in-store; Major dept stores (John Lewis, Harrods)
Overall Score: 3 out of 5
This is priced exactly the same as the Dior nude skin BB, same size and similar claims. I do not own Dior’s version but I’ve tried a sample and I really liked it. It made my skin looked flawless with minimum effort. Maybe… next time!?
Thank you for reading and have a lovely week 🙂
