Lime Crime Velvetines in Red Velvet and Suedeberry, review and photo swatches

Hello there! How are you doing today? Today I will be sharing my views and swatches for the 2 Lime Crime products that I’ve purchased many moons ago!

Velvetines are one of Lime Crime’s bestselling products. Lime Crime is a US NYC based company. They are well known for their quirky colour range for lipsticks and shadows. Their product packaging is really interesting, look at those boxes and lovely designs!

Lime Crime is not easily available in the UK. They are available on few makeup online stores. I ordered mine from Lovemakeup. I only just starting to wear these again after finding a good lip scrub

Velvetines ~the product
Velvetines are matte lipstick lovers’ heaven… These are liquid lipsticks, they apply like a gloss and dries very quickly.
They are super pigmented, seriously matte and extremely long lasting. I have not come across any matte lipsticks that behave and look the same way.

The packaging
Please note mine are the editions before they revamped the complete Velvetines line.
They now look like this->

Old and new tubes both have a frosted glass look. It kinda look more luxurious than the average liquid lipsticks from the high street. I do prefer the older packaging to be honest :p
It has a normal doe foot applicator that’s not spongey. It’s just right for applying Velvetines. It has a nice scent to it, which fades away after it dries.

These two were the only 2 colours (Red velvet and Suedeberry) available in the UK. Now these Velvetines are available in 6 colours. Most recent sellout colours are the newly launch Pink Velvet and Wicked. Check these out!!

Official website describes Velvetines as transfer-proof and touch-proof. Vegan and cruelty free.

The application
As it dries within few minutes and it is ultra long lasting so you have to make sure you apply it precisely and accurately. After it goes on it will stays on! It was quite tricky at first, and never attempt without using a mirror too!

Velevtines are complete matte lipsticks that’s opaque with 1 swipe of product. It is very pigmented!
The product will dry quickly and clings into your lips. So make sure your lips are scrubbed and prepped, no dry flakey bits as it would definitely accentuates everything that’s not smooth!

The goods:

  • Dries quickly
  • Vibrant colours
  • Very pigmented
  • Long lasting, normally around 4/5 hours (it leaves a stain on lips as well)
  • Ultra-matte looking

The bads:

  • Dries too quickly
  • Unforgiving, and not beginner friendly (better apply carefully else you’ll end up with wonky-looking lippy all day!)
  • Not moisturising (lips require prepping, stay away if you suffer from very dry lips)

Price: £13.50 approx or $20USD
Availability: For UK, very few specialist makeup stores online, such as love-makeup, cocktailcosmetics and cutecosmetics.
For US, www.limecrime.com

Overall summary: 3.5 out of 5. It does everything it claims to do.

Would I buy this again? Unlikely, as it’s not convenient to buy and too much prep work on lips before using these. But if you do take your time with Velvetines, your lips can look amazing!!

Both are such great colors! I have semi-dry lips but suede berry looks like an amazing color.
